The Transcendental thought is about nonconformity, self-reliance, free thought, confidence, and importance of nature. Ralph Waldo Emerson and David Thoreau came up with the theory Transcendentalism. They thought that everything in the world, including human beings, is a reflection of the Divine Soul. This theory could be shown by taking a walk and looking at your surroundings.
One day in my English class, we decided to take a nature walk through these woods up beside our school. As we left the cool building into the humid, hot air outside you could just feel the temperature change. You then started to notice little rolls of sweat just roll down some of the guys faces. When we hit the woods path it felt so peaceful and it just felt like all your worries just went away. We walked on the pathway full of leaves, as we listened them crunch beneath our feet. You could just hear echoes of people's voices far away and their laughter. As we came upon this hammock a lot of us got on top of it and laid down. We stared up into the heavens above and saw the beautiful, blue sky and the green tops of the trees. "Shall we with pains erect a heaven of blue glass over ourselves, though when it is done we shall be sure to gaze still at the true ethereal heaven far above, as if the former were not?" (Thoreau 244). As I lay there I felt free of everything. Nature is such a beautiful thing and many people do not take the time to appreciate God's gift to us. "When we speak of nature in this manner, we have a distinct but most poetical sense of mind" (Emerson 220). As we continued our walk we tried to avoid the thorns poking out of the bushes. A few times the thorns would snatch you and make a little mark on your body. This kind of represented to me how everyone gets scarred in life in many ways. Either if you fail a test or someone close to you passes away, you and others are scarred from these actions, but we learn to deal with them and they fade away.
When we took this walk it showed all kinds of the Transcendental thought. People can use their intuition to behold God's spirit revealed in nature or in their own souls. When we just take some time to discover how beautiful nature really is we find a different side of us.
